Ozmoo Release 5 is out. Ozmoo is a Z-code interpreter (a program to play text adventures which use Infocom’s game format). The first version of Ozmoo was released in December 2018. It was written to produce playable games for the Commodore 64. Now, with Release 5, support has been added for Commodore 128 and Commodore Plus/4. Games built for the Plus/4 also work on a Commodore 16 which has been expanded to 64 KB of RAM.

Ozmoo supports both 40 and 80 column modes on the C128. It runs the CPU at 2 MHz when possible, to increase the responsiveness. When building for C64 or Plus/4, you can also add a loader image. For all platforms, you can use a custom font. You can also specify the colour scheme you want, as well as a darkmode colour scheme, which the player can enable using the F1 key.

You can download and install Ozmoo on your own computer, or you can use it online at http://microheaven.com/ozmooonline/ . The online version supports all the features which most users will want to use. If you want to fine-tune and optimize your builds, or you want to use a font which isn’t included in the Ozmoo distribution, you’ll have to install Ozmoo on your own computer. Documentation can be found on the project page at https://github.com/johanberntsson/ozmoo and in three PDF-documents in the documentation folder on that page.

Ozmoo is open source and can be used for free, even in commercial projects.
